Matroska

Matroska (MKV/MKA extensions) is a wrapper format similar to AVI and OGM, but development on it is advancing much more rapidly.

Matroska contains advanced capabilities such as multiple audio tracks, subtitle tracks, chaptering, and possibly it's most important aspect- it is very extensible.
