How can I make more file formats show in the Open dialog and Navigators?

Open the advanced options dialog and go to the "System / File Extensions" page.

You can now see several categories, simply add the file extension as detailed on this page and from now on the Open Dialogs and the File and Media Library Navigators will now display files with these extensions.
